What Is Botox®?

Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau are FDA-approved, non-surgical treatments used to target active lines and age-related wrinkles. These injectables are derived from botulinum toxin type A, which temporarily weakens or paralyzes specific facial muscles beneath the skin.

As a result, the treated muscles contract less, making the overlying skin appear smoother and more relaxed. All four brands are effective and originate from the same source bacterium—Clostridium botulinum.

The outcome is consistent across all: each injectable temporarily relaxes the targeted facial muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. These treatments are often combined with dermal fillers such as Restylane® or Juvederm® for enhanced facial rejuvenation.

Typically the mildest course of treatment, progressive peels usually do not cause immediate exfoliation because they only remove the stratum corneum. Repeated services will create mild sloughing with cumulative effects. The result is a refining, mild peel with no downtime. Best practice: a series of three to six treatments, two weeks apart.
